"The main objective of the State Archives Department is the preservation of archival records of the State of Kerala. The department has its Directorate at Thiruvananthapuram and three regional offices each at Thiruvananthapuram, Eranakulam and Kozhikkode respectively. The record holdings of the department includes Palm Leaves, Paper Records, Micro Films, Rare Books etc.

Through C-DIT, the Archives department is carrying out the digitization of archived records from 2008. The meta data of the digitized documents is prepared and stored in a database. The Archives Department envisages to give these digitized data to the Research Scholars online through e-likhitham 2.0 web application software. The Scholars have to do a one time registration using the new system and to make an online fee payment for accessing these records. The meta data and the PDF/e-book/JPG format of the digitized records can be viewed by the authorized Scholars.
